Descendants of George Coltlove/Colloff
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

A first glance at the above tree, it looks as though Sarah ? has had three husbands, but only George
qualifys. I say qualifys all though no marriage entry has been found, as yet. After the death of George
on the19 Nov 1815, (See death entery on COLTLOVE page), Mrs Collof received
relief from the vestry and in Feb 1816 she is refered to as "Widow Colloff". Knowing how strict the
Church was those days we have to assume George and Sarah were married.
In August 1818 an entry in the vestry minutes shows relief for Mrs Colloff self and child to the sum
of £1. I believe this child to be Jane b c 1815, the year George died.
On Jan 3 1819 Mrs Colloff gave birth to an illegitimate child and the Vestry ordered a Mr Godfry to
pay £1 per month towards the maintainance of the child. The baby was Christened Sarah on
Feb 7 1819.. It looks as though Mr Godfry defaulted a couple times on his maintainance payments
as Mrs Colloff received payments from the Vestry in 1821.
On Jan 14 1822 Mrs Colloff gave birth to another Illegitimate child, this time a Mr Chalkly was the
father, and as such the Vestry entry for Jan 23 1822 reads, Expences retaining the recognizances of
Daniel Chalkly in a case of Illegitimacy. S Colloff the sum of £1-11s-2d. This is the first time Mrs
Colloff's Christian name initial had been used, so confirming to me the it was Sarah. The Vestry
also ordered that as soon as she has recovered sufficiently she be taken before a magistrate and
punished. As there was no money for fines, perhaps she had to do community service in the
workhouse.
In June 1831 an entry in the minutes reads, Mrs Colloff lately deceased and left three children
unprovided for. The two youngest, Sarah and Eliza went into care, and Jane who was about sixteen
stayed in Finchley and probably went into service. She was still there in June 1832 when the Vestry
ordered Jane a pair of shoes.
Jane married in 1838, and Eliza in 1852, they both gave George as their Father on the certificates.
When Sarah married in 1835 the certificates never gave the Father's name. Whats family history
without a few white lies!
